Dr Karen Johnson is a highly qualified and experienced Counselling Psychologist who has completed 8 years of university training. She has worked in various organisations over the past 14 years including the AKM Centre, Yarra Psychological Services, Relationships Australia and Lifeline. Dr Johnson provides counselling for couples, individuals and families who are experiencing a variety of issues such as;

Area of Speciality

Dr Johnson specialises in couple therapy and relationship issues. Her doctoral research considered factors that impact on the relationship satisfaction of couples with dependent children, such as their attachment, conflict styles and level of emotional intelligence. Through this research, Dr Johnson was able to identify important therapeutic interventions in order to assist couples to enhance and improve their relationships, particularly whilst they are facing the challenges of parenting dependent children. As a mother of three adult children, Dr Johnson also brings a wealth of life experience to her understanding of couple and parenting issues.

Dr Johnson has been trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches including Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness and Solution- Focussed approaches. Dr Johnson has undertaken extensive EFT training and has international certification as an EFT couple therapist and supervisor of other EFT therapists. Above all, Dr Johnson strives to provide a safe, respectful and supportive environment where the unique and specific needs of the client are central to the therapeutic process.
